On the 23rd November, 2017 the Griffith University Lions Club in conjunction with dollar for dollar funding from the Australian Lions Foundation Ltd officially completed this special project for the Village Avenue Community Church Emergency Food Relief Program.

This has been achieved through efforts of Club members conducting numerous fund raising events which included, two variety nights, a high tea in the morning, theatre afternoon and sausage sizzles.  When we reached half the funds required we made application to the Australian Lions Foundation Ltd to assist us to complete the project.  With success of our application we were able to proceed.

Peter Cox of the Village Avenue Community Church, told the gathering how much they appreciate the partnership that has developed with the Lions and knows that by replacing their current situation, a number of refrigerators and separate freezers, will allow them to offer a greater range of fresh food for distribution.  Representatives from “Food Bank” and “Second Bite” attended the hand over.  They were impressed with the equipment and could see the benefits it would provide to the service and community.

Also attending were recipients of the project services. It was an opportunity to hear first-hand of the benefits people experience and how much they value the support from the Emergency Food Relief Project.

It has been a wonderful outcome and will ensure the VACC Emergency Food Project serves the community well in the coming years.
